How To Draw A Plaid Shirt
Plaid shirts are more about having the pattern follow the shape of the garment than the color scheme. Information technology has to curve and fold right around wrinkles, with the pattern moving every bit needed to allow this to read accurately. It'southward super fun to depict but requires really in-depth cognition of the mode fabric and design moves unless you're doing a super something super cartoonie where it doesn't matter.
Answer
get a design going if y'all're actually cartoon information technology out past hand- one or ii skinny strips, and then 1 large strip(vertical): horizontal- ane skinny strip, and so ane big strip; echo.

Flannel/plaid is always a problem. I take a character who wears a plaid brim and I was really intimidated by information technology at first. It seems harder than information technology actually is though. When I draw it, I do each color on a separate layer and describe the lines to match the fashion the cloth is laying, if that makes any sense... I don't want information technology to look likewise flat because it just doesn't suit my style that way. The reason I practise it on separate layers is because it makes information technology easier to erase just that i fix of lines if I make a mistake, without erasing all of it. And also because when I'm done, I can add shading to each private color/line segment. The key is to shade every layer the same in similar places. (Similar for shadows, exercise them in the aforementioned place on each layer so they match up.) The hardest function is just figuring out what order to put the layers in, but that can always be adjusted as yous go. I hope that helps. ♥

If you want to salve time, a lot of artists, especially animators, I noticed don't even bother trying to warp patterns similar that and just slap them on. Gonna pull this random image I establish as an instance

I would totally use a texture and apply the deform tools or the mesh transform tool that I keep on forgetting nigh xD

if you lot are cartoon digitally you can just describe the stripes flat out on the canvas (on their own split up layer), and and so you tin can use the 'mesh transform tool' and the 'free transform tool' to attempt and make it fit to your shirt c:
